FULL REVIEW - PokerRoom (6.29)

Due to U.S. legislation preventing credit card companies from collecting payments for wagers made by U.S. residents, PokerRoom has determined to suspend all real-money gaming business in the United States.

PokerRoom is a very popular poker room and a leader on the Ongame network, using Ongame's platform with a shared player base. The PokerRoom software has a unique design and good functionality and there is both a downloadable version and a Java client. The downloaded version is sleeker and more reliable, but the Java client works very well too. The PokerRoom software is also one of the best choices for Mac users, who can play the Java version without any special installs.

PokerRoom focuses on six-handed tables more than most other top rooms. There are many special promotions such as money-added tournaments, freerolls and qualifiers to big poker events. PokerRoom also offers great statistical analysis of your game and an open database of the hands played at the site.

The site's traffic used to be very concentrated to the Hold'em and tournament areas, but nowadays there is plenty of action at any game. The games offered are Texas Hold'em, Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo, Seven-Card Stud, Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo and Five-Card Draw. The games vary between No-Limit, Pot-Limit, and Fixed-Limit. Full-table games, short-handed, and heads-up tables are all available.

Real-money player statistics as of November 2008 show 9,000 ring-game players at peak hours and 45,000 tournament players at peak hours. Overall, PokerListings finds that PokerRoom offers great action, good game diversity and software that plays very well. The software is updated frequently to ensure safety and stability with very little downtime as a result.
